Queensland's Wet Tropics is the most bird rich area of Australia. .
I have a long association with Port Douglas and used to take guided walking tours:Chris Dahlberg - "I sailed into Port Douglas the day after Australia Day in 1985. It was at a time when "The Tin Shed" really was a tin shed. I was keen to see more of the area so carefully mapped by the Australian Army's 1 Field Survey Squadron (Royal Australian Survey Corps) in 1981 and so when I retired I did just that.
The first local I met was Sid Ashford (Ashford Avenue) and when I next saw him it was in Mossman more than 20 years later. He remembered my name and tapped me on the arm as he passed by.
